Liberal Party Message to the Victorian Chinese Community – Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival – 21 September 2021

Victorian Liberal Nationals statement on cancellation of Mid-Autumn Moon Lantern Festival

Today, Victorian Liberal Leader, Matthew Guy, David Southwick, Shadow Minister for Small Business and CBD Recovery and Craig Ondarchie, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship today share this message to Victoria’s Chinese community.

Victoria is a proudly multicultural and inclusive state which supports the cultural celebrations of our diverse communities throughout the year.

It is greatly disappointing that this year, the Mid-Autumn Moon Lantern Festival will be unable to proceed due to current lockdowns.

The Victorian Liberal Nationals understand this is an important time of the year for the Chinese community to celebrate and gather with friends and loved ones.

It is also very sad to see that the many wonderful Chinatown restaurants and businesses have been unable to welcome patrons at this important time of year and will continue through lockdown for some weeks ahead.

The Victorian Liberal Nationals understand we need a better plan to reopen our businesses, homes and city.

Together, we will continue to work with Victoria’s Chinese community to develop a new plan to get Chinatown, Melbourne’s CBD and all Victoria back on track.

With all our best wishes,

Matthew Guy MP
Leader of the Liberal Party Leader of the Opposition

David Southwick MP
Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party Shadow Minister for Small Business Shadow Minister for CBD Recovery

Craig Ondarchie MP
